being His hands and feet

I have a freakishly amazing small group and circle of friends here in Nebraska.
We are all hungry to serve and to dig into the community and help in any way that we can.

I just love that!

We are finding where we fit, what we're passionate about doing, where we're passionate about serving, and letting God take the reigns and being a willing servant and a do-er of the word.

Two examples:

A couple months ago we did a drive to collect evening dresses to be donated to CASA for older teenage girls in our local foster care program to attend their school dances in style.
We collected 75 dresses!
75!
That is a lot!
And as a result of that God has opened up a door to use us in taking senior portraits for the graduating teens in the foster program.

God is so cool!

Then at the beginning of the year we were looking for another project to sink our hands into and I came across the 1st annual Hearts of Hope Baby Shower. The Hearts of Hope Baby Shower was being put on by the Lydia House/Open Door Mission to collect all things baby to be donated to the women, babies, children, and expectant mommies that they serve every day.
So we got our brains a rolling, made up a snazzy pamphlet (courtesy of Holly), and we started a three week drive to collect as much baby loot as we possibly could.

Here it comes....if you're willing to move, God will use you.

Case in point...
I was on my way out of Big Wheels and Butterflies, a super awesome baby consignment store, where I picked up a pair of swings and as the cashier was helping me to the car she asked me if I was having twins-
hehehe.
"Uh, no," I politely replied, but told her why I was buying them and before I knew it she ran back in the store and came out with two huge bags of baby clothes to donate and then took a bunch of pamphlets to hand out to customers to help spread the word.

God is so cool!

I asked Isaak if he could take word of this project to work and see if the dental clinic would be able to back it and get involved, and before I knew it- word spread and people in every corner of the base, from Stratcom, to intelligence, to the weather agency were setting out boxes and collecting money.

Can I get a Boo-yeah!
God is so cool!

Friends were digging in their pockets and buying diapers, wipes, clothes, you name it!

Generosity was abounding.
God is so cool!

By the end of our drive we collected boxes upon boxes of diapers, clothes, coats, toys, blankets, bottles, pacifiers, formula galore, albums...pretty much everything.

It became very evident to me through this that people want to help, and give, and share, and bless but many times don't know how, or where to start, or who to help.
But once you give them an outlet and an opportunity-watch out!

I was left standing in awe of what God can do in the hearts of His people.
So proud of all my chiquititas for helping to spread the word, dig deep, sacrifice, and be do-ers of the word.

Did I mention I have freakishly amazing friends here?!

I don't always understand all of His ways, everything He does, or all that He calls me to do...
but what I do know for certain is that He's called me, by name, to be His hands and feet. To love, bless, show compassion, mercy, and do the "extra's" for those in need. To fight for justice, live hard, pray hard, love hard, and do my best to live a life that will bring glory and honor to His name, and His name alone.

Hoping His name was glorified in all of this.

Can't wait to see all the "extra's" we'll get to do for His people in His name in 2009.

to be continued....
