Marvelly's 1st birthday celebration

I hardly have words to describe how I feel about Marvelly turning 1.
(and every other sequential birthday she'll see)
It seems to have snuck up on me.
Not sure how it snuck up on me, but these things always seem to happen.
I blink-and POOF! A years gone by and as cliche as it sounds it really does feel like yesterday that she was born.
Time doesn't make any sense once you have kids.
It's like your brain is living in some parallel universe and even though you're right there-living with them day in and day out-you're somehow always stuck in the past a bit. Always looking upon them with disbelief that they're growing and changing.
You should get it-people grow and change, but it always catches me by surprise.
My girls catch me by surprise daily.
I don't think that's something that will ever change.
So, that said, here are some pictures of my baby turning 1.

we started off the day with a little hair cut
(her mullet had to go)

and then off to the zoo (it was 60 degrees!)

birthday night

she had her first taste of cake-I think she liked it....

so much so it made it all the way down to her toes, somehow.

Sydaleigh very proud of the present she picked out for Marvelly,
and very excited for her to open it

she lent her big sister talent at tearing apart the wrappings, was kind
enough to let her take a picture with it, and then quickly stole it away
to play with it. (Marvelly hasn't seen it since)

her 'celebration gathering' the following evening
(I figured if I didn't call it a "party" people wouldn't bring gifts-yeah, that didn't happen)
Marvelly's pretty cakes (thanks Holly!)

birthday girl!
(she thought the candle fire was very interesting-so much so she decided to touch
it, but only once)

And that's that. She's 1. (sigh)

Sydaleigh's 1st (real) haircut

I had an appointment yesterday to take Sydaleigh to this fabulous little girl salon, Sweet and Sassy, to get a hair cut with some of her girlfriends.

She was in need of a professional hair cut.
I've tried to trim it myself, which never turns out good-it always ends us a bit lopsided.
And it's just gotten to the point where it is incredibly hard to manage (the static does not help).

It was suppose to be a girl affair, and when I called Isaak to inform him of what we were doing at lunch time I hear him say on the other end of the phone...

"I'll meet you there." in his very deep serious manly voice.

Seriously, what is it with guys and hair? I still don't get it.

Needless to say, the man is downright protective of his girls hair. (it's sweet and funny and annoying all at the same time).

Bless his heart.

It gets to be Sydaleigh's turn and as she sits down the hair dresser asks how short we would like her hair....ha ha ha....

Isaak wouldn't budge more than two inches.
Two inches!
He actually stood next to the poor lady the whole time she was cutting Sydaleigh's hair
just watching her....
keeping a close eye.... don't even know on what...
but he was there....
inspecting...
...the. whole. time.

ahhh, makes me laugh.

bless his heart.

there he is-watching away

The final product.
(you can barely tell her hair is shorter-which suits Isaak just fine)

Just can't seem to escape this

We are enjoying a nice evening at TCBY for our Sunday ice cream.

We are all sitting down at a booth chowing down on some frozen yogurt when Isaak looks up at me and says very abruptly...
"What was that?"

...he lifts up his leg...

"What the???" he says...

and there, resting on his ankle, is a big ole globby of something that looks remarkably like poo.

"Eewww" I say letting a little giggle slip out.

I hold back my laugh and I bravely peek my head over to Marvelly sitting in her high chair and low and behold...

...a volcano erupted!!!!
her back, clothes, and the high chair were layered in poo!

I couldn't hold back the laughter (after all, I wasn't the one with poop droppings on me!)
Isaak didn't find this nearly as amusing.

But it got funnier.

I had no wipes on me. (seriously, I should know better by now)

And...

I was not cleaning that.

Did I mention Isaak was not laughing.
(he he he)
He couldn't even pick her up so he just wheeled her, high chair and all, to the bathroom.

Buah ha ha ha hah ha ahhahahahahahahahahhahah!!!

after laughing amoungst myself while he hosed off our daughter, and their chair, I thought....
1) you'd think after being a year old (on Wednesday) this sort of thing would no longer be happening.

2) I should be able to leave the house for a 30 minute outing without needing extra wipes, diaper, change of clothes, ect.....because she's a year old.

3) what the heck am I gonna write about when I don't have poop stories to tell anymore?!

4)oh yeah, I'm sure they're give me something-they always do!

being His hands and feet

I have a freakishly amazing small group and circle of friends here in Nebraska.
We are all hungry to serve and to dig into the community and help in any way that we can.

I just love that!

We are finding where we fit, what we're passionate about doing, where we're passionate about serving, and letting God take the reigns and being a willing servant and a do-er of the word.

Two examples:

A couple months ago we did a drive to collect evening dresses to be donated to CASA for older teenage girls in our local foster care program to attend their school dances in style.
We collected 75 dresses!
75!
That is a lot!
And as a result of that God has opened up a door to use us in taking senior portraits for the graduating teens in the foster program.

God is so cool!

Then at the beginning of the year we were looking for another project to sink our hands into and I came across the 1st annual Hearts of Hope Baby Shower. The Hearts of Hope Baby Shower was being put on by the Lydia House/Open Door Mission to collect all things baby to be donated to the women, babies, children, and expectant mommies that they serve every day.
So we got our brains a rolling, made up a snazzy pamphlet (courtesy of Holly), and we started a three week drive to collect as much baby loot as we possibly could.

Here it comes....if you're willing to move, God will use you.

Case in point...
I was on my way out of Big Wheels and Butterflies, a super awesome baby consignment store, where I picked up a pair of swings and as the cashier was helping me to the car she asked me if I was having twins-
hehehe.
"Uh, no," I politely replied, but told her why I was buying them and before I knew it she ran back in the store and came out with two huge bags of baby clothes to donate and then took a bunch of pamphlets to hand out to customers to help spread the word.

God is so cool!

I asked Isaak if he could take word of this project to work and see if the dental clinic would be able to back it and get involved, and before I knew it- word spread and people in every corner of the base, from Stratcom, to intelligence, to the weather agency were setting out boxes and collecting money.

Can I get a Boo-yeah!
God is so cool!

Friends were digging in their pockets and buying diapers, wipes, clothes, you name it!

Generosity was abounding.
God is so cool!

By the end of our drive we collected boxes upon boxes of diapers, clothes, coats, toys, blankets, bottles, pacifiers, formula galore, albums...pretty much everything.

It became very evident to me through this that people want to help, and give, and share, and bless but many times don't know how, or where to start, or who to help.
But once you give them an outlet and an opportunity-watch out!

I was left standing in awe of what God can do in the hearts of His people.
So proud of all my chiquititas for helping to spread the word, dig deep, sacrifice, and be do-ers of the word.

Did I mention I have freakishly amazing friends here?!

I don't always understand all of His ways, everything He does, or all that He calls me to do...
but what I do know for certain is that He's called me, by name, to be His hands and feet. To love, bless, show compassion, mercy, and do the "extra's" for those in need. To fight for justice, live hard, pray hard, love hard, and do my best to live a life that will bring glory and honor to His name, and His name alone.

Hoping His name was glorified in all of this.

Can't wait to see all the "extra's" we'll get to do for His people in His name in 2009.

to be continued....

Sorta savvy sisters

We almost successfully surprised Holly and Kara yesterday for their birthday dinner surprise.
Well, Kara was surprised. She thought we forgot her birthday-not on our watch sister!
And I say almost because Holly found out ten minutes before we showed up at her door when she spied us all running around the neighborhood like a bunch of lunatics to each other's houses. We put in a good effort though!

tee he he-surprise!

birthday girls in the house!
loving the tiara's!
Holly got a custom made, tacky, glittery feathered birthday necklace
for turning 29+373 days.

our very lively party

the waiter brought us plates-but clearly we didn't need them.
We let our forks have their way with that cake.

our beautimous setting

fun fun fun night.
